Overcoming the challenges of automotive technology together
Today, many plastic moulded parts perform the same tasks in vehicles for which only sheet metal, aluminium and the like were considered ten years ago. Although this progress promises weight and cost savings on the one hand, it also places high demands on moulds and materials on the other: safety, heat resistance and stability under high mechanical stress are among the long list of requirements and make mould design for vehicle parts a complex matter.
Moulded parts with screw threads - from the gear wheel for electrically adjusting the seat back, to window regulator mechanisms, steering wheel adjustments and oil filter holders, to heat-resistant components near the engine - require the same type of unscrewing in production as everyday bottle caps. However, what adds complexity to the development of an unscrewing unit for electronic and vehicle parts are, on the one hand, the often filigree and complicated shapes and, on the other hand, the demanding engineering plastics such as highly filled polyamides or PEEK that are used here. In the electrical sector, the desire for minimum cycle times and high output quantities does not have to be associated with a loss of quality. On the contrary: the extreme precision and control with which our systems work allows high speeds and service lives as well as longer maintenance intervals in production. Cycles and processes are optimised by the servo components and the quality and dimensional accuracy of plastic parts can be increased and positively influenced along the way.
The fact that a servo system can also mean lower power requirements and thus savings in energy costs results from the fact that the individual servo components only absorb energy in the respective movement, without a higher-level system having to maintain a constant operating pressure, as is the case with hydraulics. The solutions developed by Servomold for de-spindle, linear movement or index plate rotation are innovative additions with which injection moulding systems can increase production speed, part quality and also energy efficiency.
